Youth Ministry at First Presbyterian Church is committed to safe and authentic exploration of faith and life in exciting, fun, and creative ways.

All 6 - 12th graders are welcome as we try to understand and respond to God’s work in our lives. We are passionate about worship, music, service, education, small groups, fellowship, mission, and educational trips. If you’ve never been to a youth event, give it a try. Come and see what we’re all about!

2019-20 Schedule

  • Youth Group (grades 6-12, during school year)

    • Sunday evenings from 5:00-7:15, meet in Fellowship Hall

      • Discussions/Bible study separated by age group (6th-8th, 9th-12th)

      • Games & Dinner together

  • Bagels and Bibles (grades 6-12, aka Sunday School, during school year)

    • Sunday morning from 9:45-10:45 beginning September 16

      • 6th-12th grade in the Youth Suite downstairs with Wilson, Elise, and other special guests. Bagels will be served every week!

  • Small Groups (during school year)

    • Intermission: Every other Thursday night from 7:00-8:30 for 9th-12th graders.

      • Dinner, catching up, Bible study

    • Youth Breakfast: The last Thursday of each month at various locations from 7:00-7:45 a.m:

      3/18 = Chik-Fil-A Parham Road

      4/25 = Chik-Fil-A Pump Road

    • Ladies Bible Study: One Thursday each month (1/31, 2/14, 3/14, 4/11, and 5/9)

      • Come learn more about your faith and fellowship with other girls!

      • Open to all 6th-12th grade girls

      • 6:45-8:00 at Susan Sokolsky’s home

Youth Trip Information October 2019-August 2020

Hello Everyone,

We are so excited to announce our trip offerings for this year! There are several staple programs we are returning to this year, as well as some new destinations! If you would like to signup for any of these trips, please email Elise.

Fall Trip:

Youth Mission Weekend

The Center, Baltimore, MD

November 15th-17th

Cost: $100 per person

Age: TBA

The Center is an urban outreach organization in the heart of Baltimore, MD. They are an extension of the Presbytery, partnering with the local congregations in civic engagement and service. We will leave Friday the 15th after school, serve in the Baltimore community on the 16th, and worship in the community on the 17th before returning home that evening. Cost includes lodging, meals, and transportation.

Winter Trip:

Youth Ski Weekend

Massanutten Ski Resort, Harrisonburg, VA

January 10th-11th

Cost: $200 per person

Age: 6th-12th

The Ski Trip is back this year! We will leave Friday the 10th after school and stay the night at Massanetta Springs Camp and Conference Center. We will ski all day on the 11th, and return home that evening. Cost includes lodging, meals, transportation, ski rentals, and lift tickets.

Summer Trips:

High School Mission Trip

El Guacio, Puerto Rico

June 14th-21st

Cost: $500 per person

Age: 15+

WE ARE SO EXCITED TO SHARE THIS GREAT NEWS WITH YOU! Our church is partnering with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance! We will be staying at El Guacio which is a Presbyterian camp outside San Juan. We will do relief work after Hurricane Maria and other exciting opportunities! Cost includes lodging, meals, and transportation. THIS TRIP IS LIMITED TO 24 PARTICIPANTS. STUDENTS AND PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO SIGN UP TOGETHER FOR THIS EXCITING TRIP!

Massanetta Springs Middle School Conference, Harrisonburg, VA

June 23rd-26th

Cost: $400 per person

Age: Rising 6th-9th

This will be our second year returning to the Middle School Conference in the heart of the Shenandoah Mountains. The four days of fellowship are high energy, impactful, and encouraging. This year's theme is In the Potter's Hands! Cost includes lodging, meals on campus, transportation, conference t-shirt, and conference materials.

Montreat Youth Conference, Black Mountain, NC

July 18th-26th

Cost: $400

Age: Rising 9th-Graduated Seniors

I'm sure you've never heard our Youth mention Montreat before, but if you have, you know that it is the best thing that happens all year, for most of them. In the beautiful mountains of North Carolina, this year's theme is We Are. Cost includes lodging, most meals, transportation, and conference registration.

Signups begins now! Please sign up ASAP as trip slots fill up quickly! Our Youth Administrator Cindy Jennings will respond to your sign-ups when she returns from vacation. To accompany your email sign-up, please bring or send a $100 deposit. This can be dropped off at the church office or brought to any Youth event. The remaining balance must be paid prior to the trip's departure.
