About Ashtyn

I am a Nebraska native who found herself moving to Richmond during the summer of 2019. After graduating college with a degree in Family Studies, I wasn't sure what my next steps would be. This uncertainty led me to apply (and get accepted) to be a PCUSA Young Adult Volunteer (YAV). During my volunteer year, I lived in New Orleans with six other YAVs where I worked for an adult education program. That year transformed me in more ways than I could have imagined and I am still finding myself reflecting on my experiences in the Big Easy. If it wasn't for this volunteer year, I wouldn't be where I am today - starting my third year of seminary. I'm not sure where God will lead me once I graduate, but I am grateful to be surrounded by people who support me and encourage me to become the best version of myself.During my internship with FPC, I will be primarily working with the fourth and fifth graders by leading their small groups on Sunday afternoons/evenings. I am beyond excited to get to know this group of children as well as everyone else in the congregation. Living through a pandemic has reminded me just how much I genuinely enjoy meeting people and connecting with them. We all have our own stories to tell and I hope I have the opportunity to hear many stories this year!

Leadership

Elders are charged with the oversight of the life of our congregation – leading, governing, and caring for its members.  Both individually and collectively (as the Session), elders provide leadership in worship, teaching, mission, evangelism, care and nurture.  Along with the pastors, the elders are the shepherds of the flock.

Deacons are charged with the sympathy, witness and service for all our members. Deacons are persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies and sound judgment. Both individually and collectively (as the Diaconate), deacons provide compassionate care for all church members.
