Rev. Derek Starr Redwine

Covenant Pastor for Discipleship

About Derek:

I'm a Texan who somehow ended up an avid Cleveland sports fan and a passionate advocate for the city of Richmond and its people. After graduating from Miami University, I spent two years teaching 4th grade and Kindergarten through Teach for America, an experience that taught me as much about injustice, perseverance, and grace as any seminary class ever would.

I went on to earn my degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2000 and have served congregations in New York City, Denver, Akron, and Cleveland before coming to Richmond. In addition to my part-time role as Covenant pastor, I serve as the Coordinator for The Ministry Collaborative's "Compelling Preaching Initiative", a Lilly-funded program that facilitates cohorts of preachers from across the country and the theological spectrum to learn from one another.

I'm passionate about engaging people in the work of justice, helping them apply the teachings of Jesus, and supporting them as they take their next step forward in faith.

I'd love to get to know you over coffee, a beer, or a long walk. Give me a call and let's set something up. I'm always on the hunt for my next good book or streaming show.
