About Ashtyn

I was born and raised in/near Lincoln, Nebraska and will always be a Midwestern at heart. After graduating college with a degree in Family Studies, I wasn't sure what my next steps would be, but I knew I wanted to move farther away from home to experience what life is like in a different place. This uncertainty led me to be a PC(USA) Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) where I lived in New Orleans with six other YAVs and worked for an adult education program. My year in New Orleans transformed me in more ways than I could have imagined and I am still reflecting on my experiences in the Big Easy, even five years later. My eyes were opened to the injustices present in our society, which reignited a desire to continue learning, both inside and outside the classroom.

This desire to learn lead me to attend Union Presbyterian Seminary, where I grappled with the history of Christianity and how it’s experienced today. I completed both of my seminary internships at First Pres and later graduated with a Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Christian Education in 2023. Today, you can find me doing many things around the church as the Executive Administrative Assistant. I have a passion for hearing people’s stories because it’s these stories that allow us to connect with one another on a deeper level, reminding us how we are all connected through Christ. I hope I have the opportunity to hear more of your story!
