I grew up in the Dutch community of Holland, Michigan where the summers were glorious and the winters would knock your socks off. But the cold wasn't enough of a deterrent for me because after high school I headed to New England to attend Gordon College. It was at Gordon, that I developed a love for the Bible, education, and working with those in need.

In 2004, I moved to Richmond to teach with Richmond Public Schools and after three years of teaching at the elementary level, I took a position as Educational Coordinator at the Peter Paul Development Center in Richmond’s East End. My heart grew for the Church Hill neighborhood during this time, especially for those living in some of our cities poorest parts like Mosby Court.

Most recently, I served in the role of Site Coordinator at George Mason Elementary School with the nonprofit organization, Communities In Schools of Richmond. In this position, I worked directly with students and families, as well as volunteers from George Mason’s largest partner, First Presbyterian Church.

These experiences, as well as the wonderful opportunities I have had to serve on several mission teams to Mexico, Albania, Dominican Republic and Kenya, have shaped my passion for outreach and the church today.

My husband, Josh, step children Izabelle, Gabriel, and Sean, and I live in Church Hill. In my spare time, I love to antique, create new recipes, run, and kayak.
