Celebrating our Partnership with Henry Marsh Elementary

We've gifted $20,000 to expand the library with over a thousand new books.

by Rev. Derek Starr Redwine on April 26, 2023

In 2022 we celebrated 20 years of partnership with Henry L. Marsh, III Elementary (formerly George Mason). This celebration included a $20,000 gift to the Henry Marsh school library! School staff handpicked 1,475 new books and a team of FPC volunteers helped to stock the shelves with all these new titles.

We are grateful for all the time and talent given by FPC volunteers over the years, and for our ongoing relationship with Henry Marsh, a relationship that has challenged and changed us. Named for the first African-American mayor of Richmond, Henry L. Marsh, III serves amazing children who face real challenges: 92% of the student body is classified as "economically disadvantaged."

The longevity of our partnership is an example of the significant difference faith communities can make by prioritizing their relationships with a few primary outreach partners (for more on our partners, click here). Our church's outreach vision is to empower children and families in the East End by providing them a continuum of care. Our partnership with Henry Marsh is just one of the ways we're fulfilling our mission to serve the world God loves.

The expectation is that every church member supports at least one of our primary partners. You’ll hear more about the ways you can support our partners in the coming months. For now, join us in morning and evening worship on May 7 to celebrate our partnership with Henry Marsh and hear about the ways you can get involved with all our primary partners!
