FPC Seeks Director of Communications

Position Summary

In this new full-time position, FPC seeks a qualified candidate to lead its digital and traditional communication efforts.

The Director of Communications (DC) will work closely with the new Pastor/Head of Staff (the Rev. Amy Starr Redwine), other ministry staff, lay leaders, and a Communications Committee to dream big and help FPC reach its full potential. The new DC will bring vision and fresh eyes to assess, brainstorm, guide, and advise leadership on improvements and innovations in these areas as well as others:

  • Physical campus and on-site communications – communicating who we are and who we yearn to be, through features of our physical facilities, including digital signage, other technologies, and art installations

  • Member engagement – helping our members connect and engage beyond Sunday mornings, inviting them to explore new ways to live out their faith

  • Community engagement – connecting our church to our local community and the world, exploring and promoting new ways for FPC to engage and live out its mission to inspire, nurture, and serve

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Continue and enhance current church communications

  • Website management, (Squarespace platform) – update and write new copy for pages; help select and shoot photos

  • Church-wide communications via email (Constant Contact)

  • Social media management (currently only Facebook) – posting and boosting, as appropriate, sermons, news about upcoming and “as they happen” events

  • Weekly printed worship bulletin and announcements – design and editing (Lucidpress) – write weekly e-newsletter; design and write copy for worship bulletin

  • Printed materials such as banners and fliers – design and editing

  • Additionally, the DC will:

    • Stay current on upcoming events for guiding and implementing related communications

    • Advise staff, volunteers, and committees in development of tools, messaging, promotion plans for their ministries and areas

    • Create copy for letters, mailings, informational handouts, website, posters, etc. as requested by ministry staff for programs and activities

    • Work with local, national, and presbytery media to place stories about FPC’s ministries, events, worship, staff accomplishments, and expertise

Implement and sustain a vision of new communications opportunities

  • Maintain FPC graphic identity; modify and implement as appropriate in consultation with staff, Session, and Communications Committee

  • Ensure that publications consistently reflect FPC identity

  • Continually revitalize FPC’s “digital front porch” as an extension of our church community into the world, showing who we are and yearn to be; inspiring, nurturing, and serving those who may not even live in our community

  • Use new and “old-fashioned” ways to reach out to current members, inviting them to engage, learn, and grow with our active and welcoming community

  • As a Communications expert and part of the ministry staff, guide both staff and volunteer leadership in the adoption of innovative approaches to community engagement

  • Assist Communications Committee and staff in developing and managing communications budget

Minimum Qualifications Education/Experience:


  • College degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field

  • Experienced and knowledgeable about communications and public relations, whether in a church, non-profit, or corporate setting

  • Proficiency in Word, Adobe Professional Suite, Constant Contact

  • Excellent writing and editing skills

  • Strong organizational skills; efficient and able to prioritize competing priorities

  • Savvy and experienced with social media

  • Comfortable learning new technology and software

  • Familiarity with effective use of web design

  • Some graphic design experience preferred


  • Experience in church-related work, specifically the Presbyterian Church (USA) preferred

  • Understanding of and comfort with the theology and polity of our denomination.

  • Comfort with the culture and values of our church as it understands the Gospel (e.g.

  • Graduate work in theology and/or experience working in a church will be a significant benefit

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package administered by the church and the PC (USA) Board of Pensions. Expected range of compensation is $40,000 - $55,000, commensurate with experience.
