Flexibility and Balance - Lenten Devotional
During Lent, as we ponder how the theme “Lost and Found” relates to our journey of faith, we will share a weekly devotion written by an active elder or a staff member. We hope these provide “food for thought” during this season.
When asked “why do you do yoga?”, my brief answer is that is maintains flexibility and balance. I presume that most think of that only as the physical benefits. However, I find it is a practice for both body and spirit.
It is so easy to become lost in what I see and set as priorities without checking if that may be God’s priorities for me. A yoga practice is one way that I slow down, center on gratitude, and find renewed focus. Balance is not only physical, but a Christ-centered life perspective. Flexibility is not only for the joints, but also listening and responding to what is happening around me.
Psalms 46:10 assures us, “Be still, and know that I am God!” Closing a yoga practice for me is the affirmation that Christ is the light in me and I will seek to share that light with others.
