Finding Strength - Lenten Devotional

During Lent, as we ponder how the theme “Lost and Found” relates to our journey of faith, we will share a weekly devotion written by an active elder or a staff member. We hope these provide “food for thought” during this season.

I felt LOST the day my husband, Gary, aka "Gator," was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease five years ago. Fear and uncertainty of the future immediately loomed in my mind. I knew little about either non-curable disease. I had not even heard of Lewy Body Dementia. Then I learned from the neurologist that both diseases can only be managed.

Although our daughter Kim and I are managing to the best of our abilities, it is not easy emotionally or physically. We get strength from God daily through prayer and weekly through fellowship at FPC and our volunteer passions. We feel love and support from friends and our church family and disciples like Causey Davis who comes to read to Gator each week, our two FPC dinner groups who are patient and treat Gator as if nothing is wrong, and prayers from the FPC prayer group. I realize that I am FOUND.

Philippians 4:13: “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
