Seeking Director of Mission and Outreach
First Presbyterian Church, Richmond, Virginia, is a member of the Presbyterian Church USA, PC (USA). The Church (FPC) is seeking applicants who share its above commitment by providing vision and direction for missional ministry by the congregation and its partners to neighborhoods, our local area, and around the world; recruiting and leading the Outreach Council and volunteers for outreach committees, motivating and training the congregation in personal missional engagement; connecting with and supporting Mission Partners of FPC.
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Full-time, one year, lay position, renewable annually with quarterly evaluations; Reports to the Head of Staff and to the Session of First Presbyterian Church; Salary range: $45, 000 - $50, 000. Initial hiring salary commensurate with the education and experience of the applicant.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree in any discipline. Five-year related experience in church or non-profit organizations. Demonstrated ability to organize volunteers for outreach programs sponsored by a specific organization. Proven effective administration and planning skills. Demonstrated ability to work with staff, interns, and volunteers while creating an atmosphere of cooperation and motivation. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse cultures and ethnicities. Concretely developed envisaging of transfer of general strategies for outreach and recruitment to specific strategies and duties for providing vision and direction of missional ministry to include the following missional responsibilities: provide vision, direction, and training to empower the congregation in missional mindset and practice; conceive and implement ways the congregation can connect and participate with FPC’s Mission Partners; provide for regular communication, prayer, and support for FPC’s Mission Partners; research, vet, and recommend community organizations for potential outreach efforts; assist in the identification and training of volunteers for all outreach efforts of the Church; lead the Outreach Council in sharpening and following priorities in mission partnerships and funding decisions; conceive of, and plan for, events that promotevision and connectivity with God’s local, national, and global missions and connection with the entire Church; develop and prepare the congregation for missional engagement through mission trips; participate, on occasion, in outreach efforts with FPC Mission Partners.
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Master's or Divinity Degree. Strong attention to detail and accuracy, including excellence in oral communications to verbalize issues clearly, concisely, and competently in positive or negative situations. Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to deliver clear messages and listen effectively. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer using current Microsoft Office software, especially proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, and word processing. Demonstrated ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality. Demonstrated innovation and forward thinking. Demonstrated experience working within a group vision and collaborating with a team to improve existing programs and enhance systems and procedures. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to work with deadlines and pressures while maintaining attention to detail, diligence and commitment to excellence. Provide staff support and communication for each outreach committee. Educate the congregation about outreach as a part of Christian discipleship through teaching Sunday school, leading small groups, etc. Attend session meetings.
