Introducing Janet Hatfield Legro, FPC Covenant Pastor
Dear FPC Members and Friends,
I am delighted to share with you that, at the August 26 meeting, the session approved the hiring of the Rev. Janet Hatfield Legro as a part-time Covenant Pastor for a term of one year. Rev. Legro moved from Charlottesville to Richmond two years ago when her husband Jeff became the provost at the University of Richmond. She has more than thirty years of pastoral experience working with families and youth in church, school, and university settings. She also has extensive experience working with churches in transition, helping them listen and discern how God is calling them into the future. Read more about Janet here.
A Covenant Pastor, as defined by our presbytery, is a pastor who is brought into a church for a designated term and specified responsibilities. As a Covenant Pastor at FPC, Rev. Legro will support the discernment of FPC’s ministries of faith formation and outreach in a time of reimagining and transition. She will help these councils explore how outreach and faith formation are interrelated and mutually supportive. How are we called in this time and place to support children, youth, and families in spiritual, social, and emotional growth? How do we provide opportunities for individuals and small groups to grow inward in faith and outward in relationship and service?
I am thrilled to welcome Janet to our team of talented and collaborative staff and lay leaders and look forward to the ministry we will accomplish together as we discern and seek to fulfill our calling to inspire, nurture, and serve God’s people and the world God so loves. Janet will begin her work with us on Tuesday, September 3 and will be in worship on Sunday, September 8. Please join me in welcoming her to FPC!
