Thank you, Carson!
February 1, 2019. This Sunday is Rev. H. Carson Rhyne’s last day as Temporary Head of Staff at First Presbyterian Church.
Carson has had a relationship with our church for many years, from his role as general presbyter and stated clerk of Presbytery of the James (POJ), to acting as our interim head of staff on more than one occasion. He has been a steady and effective influence at FPC during the past few months, while humbly declining to accept compensation for this time with our church family.
Carson recently retired from POJ after more than 21 years of service, and now concludes his time with FPC while looking ahead with anticipation to where God may lead him. To express appreciation for Carson's service to Presbyterian Church (USA), his colleagues established the Carson Rhyne Fund for Polity Education at Union Presbyterian Seminary to benefit students in their preparation for ministry, particularly in the areas of polity and Christian education. In recognition of Carson’s service to our church over the years, the Session of First Presbyterian Church approved a contribution to this fund.
Please plan on attending worship this Sunday and take the opportunity to thank Carson for his service to our church and POJ. We wish him well in his future endeavors!
For it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. -Philippians 2:13
