Living Your Faith: Debbie Wilkinson

Walk-in Ministry Feeding.jpg

Every Monday, year ‘round, lunch is served via the Walk-In Lunch Ministry at Second Presbyterian Church in downtown Richmond. It takes the coordination and commitment of many congregations to make this happen, and our faithful volunteer, Debbie Wilkinson, makes sure the FPC team is there on their scheduled Mondays.

At the feeding program site, volunteers meet at 10:30am to prepare sandwiches and trays for 150-200 people, and then greet, serve, and share meals with the guests. People who come for lunch may need a meal because they are low on funds that week; others may not have a job or a home.

Debbie has served as a deacon and elder, and been involved with other service projects, study groups, and classes at FPC. She has been coordinating our Walk-In Lunch Ministry volunteers for about 5 years. It’s a great way to get to know other members, as well as serve those in the community. She is quick to mention the faithful FPC members who volunteer with her: Linda Cobb, Elizabeth Darling, Nancy Dawe, Kate Kerns, Julie McGrath, Ken McGrath, Deborah Michael, Jimmy Rose, Megan Rose, and Micki Stout. (Pictured above are Elizabeth, Megan, Debbie, Nancy, and Jimmy.)

Volunteers don't need to commit to every scheduled Monday. Visit one Monday and see if you might want to join in with this ministry. You aren’t just preparing and serving a meal, but also offering hospitality to those in the Richmond community who need a meal and a bit of extra care.

And thank you to all who take time out of their busy days to be a part of this ministry!
